Nina @99: The mood-maker

The party season always gets me thinking about what the makings of a really good party  are, and I thought to share my findings. So there’s the music, there’s the food, and then, oh then, there are the people!

A real party is the one where the host is buzzed with energy and chilled to the core, and the guests add to the party in thought and spirit, if you know what I mean! There are so many lovely types one meets…there’s the eternal party beast, who zaps in, zoops it up and zips out, there’s the diva who always, always strolls in catwalk style and cat-like late, purring vaguely about other commitments and unkept assignations…there’s the social climber who does nothing but rubberneck all evening, there are the wallflowers…and then there’s the dynamo of the party, the spellbinder who makes it happen.

He’s not a he, she’s not a she, but for talking purposes, lets call her a ‘she’. She’s more than a name or a definition, she makes or breaks the party in inimitable style, this party maker walks in and the DJ takes a pause, because the music just changed itself, the lights just dimmed and flickered and nothing was ever quite the same again. She enters like she’s here to stay, and sometimes, she does! She cares for no social niceties, flings kisses around with gay abandon, and is irreverent to society bigwigs and unspoken rules. She pulls waiters on to the floor if she thinks they’re cute, she loosens up ties and bouffants with abandon, and once, just once, I have seen a rare party maestro-babe lie on a coffee table and serve the canapés off her bare stomach!!

So today I salute this party wonder, and I just can’t wait to meet one of her rare tribe again…have a wonderful party season,

Cheers, Nina
