The season is crisp, the mood is cool, and Fall-Winter is definitely the time to let your true colours show….let your face be your mood-mirror and glow their socks off with your make-up savvy! With the palette of the cooler weather going pale, switch to bold and bright colours as a mood elevator, both in your fashion selections as well as make-up.
Red rules the waves and a crimson lip colour is a winter essential. Pair that sexy pout with a black, gray or any colour-block outfit, it works wonderfully and exudes confidence. Consider the selection offered by Diane Von Furstenberg and Jil Sander, or the bold red by Chanel. Kate Moss also recently released a lipstick line with Rimmel which had a lovely array of reds in tones to suit all skin-tones. Choose a good long-lasting, smudge-proof colour that needs minimum touch-ups, and you’re good for a full 6 hours, day or night. Think fur-edged stoles and jackets in blacks and taupes and imagine the glamorous effect your rose-tinted lips will have when paired with them…now that’s instant drama in a tube! Define lips with a matching lip-liner for a polished and finished evening look, or finger-blot on colour for a softer day look.
Another trend spotted frequently on the international scene has been smokey eyes, which have been big for a while now but have reappeared in newer avatars like ‘soft smokey’ and ‘drastic diva’! Use a light smudge of charcoal black eye pencil for the softer look, and coat over with more deep mascara and generous pencil and shadow work to go intense. This look is a departure from the Amy Winehouse-inspired precise batwing liner look which was so trendy last year…if you’re still channeling that look, go softer in its silhouette by using shadow or a kohl pencil rather than eye-liner to define your eyes, that will give you the contour you want, but be more on-trend.
